There's a whole lot of things going around the world, around the house, around the workplace, and around school. But where on earth would you hear the melancholy of a guy who tells lame jokes all day long, or the ambition of a joker who doesn't belong in the Deck of 52? Or the love of music behind the stony shell of a indifferent face?
That's me, yep. Sometimes unwilling to show my true self except to the ones I trust in, but otherwise I'm pretty much your average Joe. Roam the streets - you won't spot me in it unless you squint really hard. "Wonderful" is a word I hardly hear from anyone - but I'm told I'm kinda egoistic. I don't know. Maybe even narcissistic. Whichever you choose to believe in, make a value judgement only after you know me - don't be too hasty over stuff like this, a'ight?
I used to live in ignorance to the things happening around me, but the trip to Lao Cai, Vietnam on one of the college overseas community work expeditions forever changed my life. I could no longer live in my own world - there's more harsh truths out there that nobody would dare to stomach... But I told myself, I would bear these truths, maybe even secrets, so that I may be a better person day by day.
And by the guidance of my Lord Jesus Christ, I shall.
Interests:
- Chrono Trigger
Hell yeah, this game pwns as the game of the previous century, but it's a classic. Go check it out, and you'll agree.
- Music, especially instrumental ones
Yep, kinda influenced by the OSTs of certain video game music like Castlevania, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy. But let's get real, what kind of video game would make it to the top of the list without some quality battle theme playing in the background while you slay some dragon assholes in a quest to save the future of time itself?
- Books and everything nice, non-fiction though.
Especially those on medical conditions, or social issues. Yes, definitely those - sometimes I wonder why I took up a Science course instead of an Arts one.
- Coffee
Gimme a cup of freshly-brewed coffee a day, and I'll stay happy for the rest of my life. Yeah, it's just that simple.
- Simplicity
Why make things so complicated and mind-boggling when you could just sum it up? The teachers still demand simplicity out of my essays, though. Irony or not, you decide.
Things I value the most in my life:
- Friends and other social ties
Tried doing things on your own before? It's tough work, and at the end of the day there's nobody to share your joy. But I'll have to be honest on this one - there's certainly people who behave like a penis - with such friends who needs enemies? To name a few, I've got "friends" who put you down at the first opportunity, and some who go so far as to throw chicken bones at the people they don't fancy.
Yeah, sometimes it's really that bad, and probably I'll meet worse people.
Of course, not all people behave like that. Well I'm proud to say, I've got a good circle of good friends, good enough to get by through life, but that doesn't mean I'm no longer willing to make more. And you'd be surprised at what kind of friends I make that nobody else would probably want to associate with. Here's a couple of descriptions of these good friends who have been ill-treated at some point in time by the people around them:
- The dirty, unhygienic big guy who always gets bullied in class.
- The prisoner, who has turned over a new leaf.
- The guy who always gets ignored by those around him.
- The boy who couldn't get over his sister's death and becomes a social recluse.
- The study machine, who wasn't recognised of his labour and deemed to be a nutcase by others.
- The pauper who walks around the coffeeshops to get free smokes.
You get the idea. And the list shall go on. Honestly, it's these people that actually keep my life colourful instead of boring black and white. And they serve as my social and moral mirror as well - they make me think of many things that I normally wouldn't think of.
- Keeping secrets
Ah here's a strange one - why on earth would you want to keep secrets for?
Because there's a hell lot of things going on, and you never know when things will go awry. And there's this innate feeling to share secrets to someone, but are afraid to do so because of the fear of being laughed at or looked down upon. If you're looking for such an outlet, let me know - I can offer a listening ear.
But of course, in no way would I use it for social blackmail. Never, because I strongly believe such secrets are bound to a moral code that secrets should remain secrets while I keep one - don't bother asking me about others' secrets, in other words. But then again, it all depends on whether it should be kept from the interested parties...
- Truth
Yes, nothing but the truth. Even if it hurts. Yes, you heard me right. Even if it hurts.
Enough has been said about other heroes who spoke the truth, let me tell you about Valery Legasov, one of those lucky enough to be named Hero of the Soviet Union. He's my hero, and one who greatly influenced me to be someone upright and daring. Though that being said, it takes a helluva lot of courage to do the good, which I myself don't know if I'm up to that task or not. God willing, may He empower me to do so.
It's too lengthy, so I'll let this film talk about Valery Legasov instead. They do a much better job than I do:
